Samsung Electronics is a South Korean multinational conglomerate and, as of 2022, one of the largest tech companies by revenue. One of their core businesses is manufacturing and selling smartphones. Traditionally, Samsung devices are released as flagship, mid-range, or budget grade. Samsung's M series catered towards budget-conscious consumers looking for large battery sizes and versatile camera setups saw significant popularity in markets like India. The Galaxy M31s was announced in July 2020 as one of the most premium offerings in the M31 series, due to its 6,000mAh battery and 64MP quad-camera system.

The M31s features a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED FHD+ (1080 x 2400 pixels) display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection in an Infinity- O punch-hole camera layout. Under the hood, the M31s is powered by Samsung's Exynos 9611 SoC, which is an octa-core chipset complemented by a Mali-G72 MP3 GPU. It comes in two variants: 6GB or 8GB of RAM with 128GB of storage, both of which are expandable with a hybrid microSD card slot. The triple-rear camera setup includes a 64MP f/1.8 main sensor, a 123-degree 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera, a 5MP macro camera, and a 5MP depth sensor. Selfies are captured with a 32MP f/2.0 front camera supporting Live Focus. Video capture is capable of recording up to 4K resolution at 30fps. The M31s also features Samsung's Single Take mode that allows users to take a single photo and capture photos and videos in multiple different formats. Charging is handled by a 25W Super Fast Charger included in the box and supports reverse charging.

Battery life is where the Galaxy M31s truly excels. Thanks to its large 6,000mAh battery, users should have no problem getting a full day's worth of use even with moderate usage. At the time of its release, the Galaxy M31s was one of the most power-efficient smartphones available.

Its starting price of ₹19,999 to ₹22,999 made it squarely mid-range.
